According to market analyst Dell'Oro Group, while only ten lakh femtocell units are expected to ship in 2010, commercial femtocell deployments will increase significantly in 2011 to reach Rs.18,787.55 crore ($4 billion) in 2014.

"Although we are in the very early stages of commercial femtocells deployments, we expect to see a significant increase in commercial deployments in 2011, and an inflection point in the market in 2012," reports Loren Shalinsky, senior analyst, Dell'Oro Group. "As of today, there are 14 commercial deployments around the world, with many more operators in the process of trialing femtocells service. The majority of these trials are expected to turn into commercial deployments in 2012. While only one million [10 lakh] units are expected to ship this year, we forecast unit shipments will reach 62 million [6.20 crore] in 2014, with more than 80 per cent of those total units being WCDMA femtocells," she adds.

The analyst says that North America is expected to have the highest shipment volume in 2010 due to the three largest mobile operators having already launched commercial femtocells service. However, as more operators in EMEA begin deployments in 2012, we forecast shipments to this region will surpass those of North America.
