AP5101 Buck Converter

Diodes Inc. has unveiled the AP5101, a 1.5A buck converter that offers 1.4MHz fixed switching frequency thereby allowing reduction in inductor size and other standard external components.

The converter's compact SO-8 packaging and integrated low RDS(ON) power MOSFET switch means significant board space savings can be achieved, enabling designers to reduce circuit footprints in a range of products including set top boxes, modems, and distributed power systems.. Minimised external component count also provides increased flexibility in circuit design.

Characterised by its very low series resistance, the AP5101 delivers a constant output current up to a peak of 1.5A for efficiency as high as 92 per cent, over a wide input supply range of 4.75V to 22V. Fast transient response eases loop stabilisation requirements and the output is adjustable from 0.81V to 15V.

The AP5101 is self-protected through cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shut down protection, ensuring long term product reliability. The converter has an enable pin allowing it to be switched off into a standby mode, consuming just 0.1µA.
