USB-packed MCU targets low-power apps

Maxim Integrated Products unveils the MAXQ622, a USB transceiver integrated16bit RISC that delivers intelligent supply monitoring.

Designed for low-power applications, this MCU operates from either an external supply (1.7V to 3.6V) or directly from USB power. Intelligent supply monitoring enables the MCU to conserve power by actively switching from the main supply during periods of USB connectivity. To further extend battery life, the MAXQ622 consumes an ultra low 300nA (typ) in stop-mode operation. These unique power-saving capabilities make the MAXQ622 suitable for remote controls, security systems, thermostats, blood pressure monitors, and a wide variety of other consumer and medical applications.

The MAXQ622 includes 128KB of flash memory, 6KB of data RAM, dual USART ports, dual SPI master/slave communication ports, I²C port, IR module with carrier-frequency generation, and up to 56 GPIO pins. Additionally, it provides a secure memory-management unit to prevent device cloning and unauthorised access to sensitive application code.

The MAXQ622 is available in a 64-pin LQFP package and as bare die (contact the factory for detailed information). Prices start at Rs.96.51 ($2.09) (1000-up, FOB USA). The MAXQ612 is also available for those applications not needing USB capabilities.

Maxim provides complete software support with USB class drivers and application examples, making it easy to add USB functionality to embedded applications. An evaluation kit is available with an evaluation board and a PC-based integrated development environment, which provides a debugger, assembler/linker, time-limited version of the IAR C-compiler and simulator.
