Drivers bring compactness, dimming for LEDs

XP Power brings to market a new series of 300-1000mA PCB mount LED drivers. The LDU ultra-compact highly efficient devices offer constant current outputs of 300-, 350-, 500-, 600-, 700- or 1000mA. The 300mA LD08 device measures just 20.32mm x 10.16mm x 6.88mm. All the devices have a typical efficiency of 95 per cent. The non-isolated step-down drivers can accommodate a very wide range of input voltage from 7Vdc to 30Vdc.

Dimming options include two analogue methods (voltage or resistance) or a pulse width modulation (PWM) input signal. The PWM approach has a maximum operating frequency of 1kHz, with a minimum 200ns on/off time. When using an analogue dimming method the output current range can be adjusted from 25 per cent to 100 per cent of nominal current.

Offering an MTBF in excess of 5 million (50 lakh) hours to MIL-HDBK-217F reliability standard at 25°C, the LDU series suits a broad range of energy efficient LED lighting designs such as those used for advertising displays, traffic signs, and automotive lighting and consumer appliances.

A remote on/off control input provides the designer the ability to control the output or sequence the start-up. Short and open circuit protection is also provided.

The LDU series is available from stock from Newark or direct from XP Power. Priced from $7.80 (Rs.364.59) for the LDU08 300mA unit to $13.26 (Rs.619.80) for LDU24 1,000mA unit in medium quantities, the devices have a 3 year warranty.
