India sets 3G bidding price at Rs.3,500 crore

The India government has increased the price for its long-delayed auction of 3G spectrum, which it plans to conduct within the next three months.

This is according to an Agence France Presse report, which cited a government minister as saying that the reserve price for the 3G radio bandwidth is set Rs.3,500 crore ($716 million).

The new price set by Aug. 27 was much higher than the proposed price by the Telecommunications Regulatory of India at Rs.2,020 crore ($417 million).

Telecom Minister Andimuthu Raja told said the government plans to complete the auction within three months and expects to raise Rs.25,000 crore ($5.17 billion) from the 3G, WiMAX an 4G frequencies sale.

Raja added that entry price for 4G licence will be at Rs.1,750 crore ($361.55 million), up from Rs.1,010 crore ($208.67 million) announced last year. The government plans to sell four 3G licences and three broadband wireless access licences in 20 of the 22 telecom zones, the according to the AFP report.
