Efficient low-level software development for the i.MX platform

This application note describes how to write efficient C code for the i.MX platform. Because the i.MX platform is based on the ARM cores, this application note is applicable for all i.MX devices. This document uses standard C for the examples; however, the techniques described apply equally to C++. The examples in this document are simple and concise to highlight specific issues.

Currently, the ARM family accounts for approximately 75 per cent of all embedded 32bit RISC CPUs, making it one of the most widely used 32bit architectures. ARM CPUs are found in most areas of consumer electronics from portable devices (PDAs, mobile phones, media players, handheld gaming units and calculators) to computer peripherals (hard drives, desktop and routers). This application note assumes the reader has some knowledge of ARM assembly programming.
