Micrel Inc. has launched the MIC5380 and the MIC5381, part of a new family of dual voltage linear regulators offering low dropout voltage of 155mV@150mA, more than 60db Power Supply Ripple Rejection and low quiescent current 32microA, in the smallest possible form factor.

The family is offered in a miniscule 1mm x 1mm 6-pin leadless thin MLF package making them suitable for the most advanced and smallest portable applications possible including cell phones, RF power, camera modules, imaging sensors for digital still and video cameras, PDAs, portable media players and PC cameras.

"This tiny new LDO family sets a new benchmark on smallest possible package form factor without compromising on specifications or electrical performance," noted Andy Khayat, Micrel's director of marketing for portable power products. "The MIC5380 and the MIC5381 both address the need for continuing portable size reduction while offering significant advantages over solutions currently on the market. This new addition of high performance dual LDOs offer excellent overall performance and ultrasmall foot print for all space-constrained portable electronics."

The MIC5380 and the MIC5381 integrate two high performance LDOs that offer exceptional transient response while requiring only small and inexpensive 1µF ceramic capacitors. Also, the MIC5381 offers an auto discharge function. Both devices offer full protection circuitry including current limit and thermal shutdown protection, and an operating junction temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.

The MIC5380 and the MIC5381 are currently available in volume quantities, with pricing starting at Rs.12.07 ($0.25) for 1K quantities. Samples can now be ordered.
