Error detection, recovery using CRC in FPGAs

Use error detection to maintain data integrity across channels or environments that might cause data distortion or loss. Storing configuration data correctly in the FGPA device is important. If data is not stored properly, you will have problems when working in user mode.

In the past, the error detection feature detected a single event upset that occurred during configuration or user mode only and did not report the error location, but with the error detection feature in Altera FPGA devices using cyclical redundancy checks (CRC), you can also determine the type and location of the reported error that is detected during user mode. Such error detection CRC feature is in the following devices: Stratix III and Stratix IV

This application note describes ways of using the error detection CRC feature and test methodology to test the capability of this feature in the FPGA.
