Maxim Integrated Products has acquired Innova Card, a privately held, fabless semiconductor company focusing on advanced secure microcontroller technology for financial terminals. Maxim's press release claims that this transaction bolsters the company's presence in the Rs.1,751.27 crore ($350 million) financial transaction terminal semiconductor market.

Innova Card has developed a highly integrated, secure 32bit MIPS MCU and a pre-certified POS terminal reference design. In addition, it supplies advanced customer support tools, including secure software libraries and a secure implementation of the Linux OS. Innova Card has reduced the POS terminal design cycle time from 24 months to 6 months, reducing the R&D burden and risk for the many companies that want to enter the POS terminal market.
