Energy-efficient chips suit LED designs

From Texas Instruments Inc. comes a high-power DC/DC boost LED driver (TPS61500) and high-voltage DC/DC boost converter (TPS61175).

Along with the announcement of new devices, TI has also expanded its step-down DC/DC converter series with TPS62110. These devices can support input voltages of up to 18-V and feature smaller voltage references for improved LED circuit design, says the company.

These energy-efficient devices are cross-functional and work across a variety of LED applications, including signage, ambient light, office light, general illumination, military, medical and sensors.

The TPS61500 features a 2.9-V to 18-V input voltage range, 3.0-A current switch with integrated FET, 200kHz to 2.2 MHz switching frequency, brightness dimming, user-defined soft start and 93 per cent efficiency.

Key features of TPS61175 include wide input voltage range of 2.9-V to 18-V, a 3.0-A/40-V integrated MOSFET and a wide switching frequency of 200kHz to 2.2 MHz.

The TPS62110 offers an adjustable input voltage of 3.1-V to 17-V, an adjustable output voltage of 1.2-V to 15-V, a maximum output current 1.5 A, maximum efficiency 95 per cent, quiescent current: 20 uA; 2 uA in shutdown, switching frequency: 1 MHz, low-battery detect and a soft start that limits in-rush current.

The TPS61500 is priced at Rs.80.06 ($1.60), TPS61175 at Rs.90.07 ($1.80) and TPS62110 at Rs.95.07 ($1.90). The new devices are available now in production quantities.
