Scopes claim top signal integrity performance, connectivity

Tektronix has announced its new DPO/DSA70000B series of enhanced real-time oscilloscopes for third-generation serial data analysis including system performance validation, jitter analysis, debug and compliance testing. The scopes promise industry leading performance, insight and connectivity with the addition of several new features aimed to address today's greater system complexity and high-speed serial trends.

As the demand for fast-evolving consumer electronics continue to increase design complexity, and data transfer rates continue to get higher, design and test engineers face greater signal integrity and acquisition challenges while trying to shorten time to market.

In an interview by EE Times-India, Tektronix Asia Pacific's market development manager Evan Sun explained, "Consumer expectations for more satisfying and consistent real time experience are driving demands for increasing data exchanges at ever wider bandwidths. Next generation consumer, computing and communications technologies will use faster and wider information buses and interconnects. Already offering the highest available bandwidth for real-time oscilloscopes, and with an industry-best jitter noise floor, the new DPO/DSA70000B models now also provide the best vertical noise performance, flattest frequency response, and greatest effective number of bits."

He added, "The models can be used to debug signals running up to 12Gbps on each of four lanes, making them ideal for design engineers developing and testing multi-lane, high-speed serial data applications including PCI-Express 3, SATA 6Gbps, SuperSpeed USB, HDMI, DisplayPort and Ethernet."

This "B" series touts the industry's only 5Gbps hardware-based serial trigger that can minimise the time needed to identify problem signals. "This hardware trigger capability guarantees that the very first occurrence of a specified bit sequence on a data bus will be captured, as opposed to competing approaches which attempt to find the pattern using a post-processing activity after the acquisition is complete, possibly requiring many acquisitions to find the desired pattern," said Sun. In addition, more than 1400 distinct trigger conditions are offered by this triggering system while other alternatives offer only around 20, according to the executive.
