A new report from Forward Concepts stated that DSP shipments collapsed at the end of 2008, with sales dropped 33 per cent from October to November. Compared to sales in 2007, November sales were off by a stunning 49 per cent.

Although sales fell significantly in most applications, wireless applications held up well. Wireless infrastructure DSP sales were down a modest 3.4 per cent from October to November. Cell Phone processors also held up fairly well, with shipments falling only 12 per cent.

The firm estimates that 2008's total shipments will be 14 per cent lower than 2007 levels, a relatively modest drop. However, most of the drop came late in the year, suggesting that 2009 DSPs sales will be significantly depressed.
