SeaSolve Software Inc. and Sandbridge Technologies, a fabless semiconductor company providing reprogrammable processors for wireless OEMs, has announced a joint development effort to build cost effective and highly integrated mobile WiMAX (802.16e) based products.

The mobile WiMAX development effort leverages SeaSolve's IP Cores (IEEE 802.16e PHY and MAC IP) and Sandbridge's SB3500 reprogrammable base band processor to allow manufacturers to design highly integrated and cost effective devices such as WiMAX enabled smart phones and CPE's for a multiplicity of target markets.

The SeaSolve/Sandbridge design departs radically from traditional fixed-function hardware designs, that require multiple processors to support mobile communication standards and applications such as, mobile WiMAX, VoIP, and multimedia codecs, etc., increasing the size, cost and power consumption of devices.

The Sandbridge/SeaSolve reference design produces a single chip, low cost, low power solution that substantively reduces product development effort and time to market, while enabling complete flexibility and programmability. The solution combines SeaSolve's mobile WiMAX PHY and MAC IP cores on Sandbridge's SB3500 board for a complete CPE reference design.
