Tools show trade-offs in switching power supply design

The latest power supply design tools are an efficient alternative to the traditional trial-and-error design approach. A designer can do virtual testing and optimisation before constructing a physical prototype, thus reducing costs and unwanted iterations. The result can also be a higher quality and more robust design tailored to the project's needs. With access to a database of thousands of components, engineers can likewise identify trade-offs using real part numbers with accompanying parametric, price and footprint information-a task that might otherwise involve extensive research.
