Prevent efficiency loss in synchronous buck converters

Both underdesigned and overdesigned MOSFETs are problematic. The former dissipates excessive power and cause early failure while the latter is unnecessarily costly. This article tries to solve this problem and come up with the right design by employing MOSFETS in the analysis of synchronous buck topology.

One of the major causes of efficiency loss in a switch mode power supply circuit is the MOSFET switch where there are often low side and high side switches. Although it does not have as much power loss compared to the Schottky diode, MOSFET switches still cause a significant amount of efficiency loss.
