Design MOSFETS for shrinking DC-DC converters

The MOSFETs design approach provides an equation for the optimum MOSFET die size based on the power switching MOSFET or the synchronous rectifier, and the total losses associated with the particular MOSFET. Designing application specific devices will enable designers to produce power devices that will meet the requirements every time. Moreover, it will eliminate the guesswork from the design process resulting in a shorter and less expensive development cycle.

Alan Elbanhawy from Fairchild Semiconductor discusses an approach finely tuned to the demands of a particular application as a response to the ever-shrinking space allocated to DC-DC converters.
