Compiler accepted as being GCC compliant

Keywords:GNU Compiler Collection  C language compiler  official port

A C language compiler developed by PicoChip Ltd has been accepted as an official port for the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC). The compiler is part of a suite of tools developed to support PicoChip's multi-core PicoArray series of devices.

PicoChip's multi-core processors are used for pico- and femtocell basestations in such wireless communications markets as WiMax, WCDMA, LTE, TD-SCDMA and 4G.

PicoChip's port is the first to achieve acceptance in nearly two years and is the first compiler accepted by the GCC that has been designed as part of a suite of tools for realising massively parallel systems. In total, compilers from just eight companies have joined the list since 2002.

Rupert Baines, PicoChip vice president of marketing commented: "GCC acceptance ensures that programmers know what to expect. So, when you write standard ANSI C source code, you will get out object code that does what it should, and has all the optimisations you would expect."
