CAT93CXX serial EEPROM design guide

Operating within the Catalyst Semi's CAT93Cxx data sheet specification limits will prevent unpredictable operation of Microwire Serial EEPROMs. Absolute maximum ratings should be observed:

"Voltage on any pin with respect to ground: -2V to Vcc +2V. The minimum DC input voltage is -0.5V. During transitions, inputs may overshoot to -2V for periods of less than 20ns. Maximum DC voltage on output pins is Vcc +0.5V, which may overshoot to Vcc +2V for periods of less than 20ns."

Fault conditions usually occur during a power-up/power-down sequence when VCC and the input signal can be erratic or have different slew rates. It is easy to avoid unpredictable operation during power up / down by following a few simple rules:

a.) Increase the VCC slew rate during power up and power down

b.) Between a power-down and the next power-up state, the duration of the VCC = 0V state should be greater than the longest power-down or power-up ramp.
