Keywords:audio amplifier  heat dissipation  thermal issues  Class D

This article is the second instalment of a series on audio amplifier thermal issues. It investigates heat dissipation and efficiency and their implications.

Amplifier classes AB and D have a constant factor—the quiescent current. Class AB amplifiers use this current to reduce crossover distortions, whereas for Class D amplifiers, this current represents switching losses. This current is of similar magnitude for both classes.
