Design platform reduces design porting time

Magma Design Automation Inc. has introduced, a model-based design platform said to dramatically reduce design porting time of analogue mixed-signal circuit designs when compared to simulation-based techniques.

Magma said Titan enables circuit optimisation for a given process technology in a matter of hours without lengthy Spice runs. The company said Titan reduces design porting time from several weeks to days.

"The simulation-based optimisation methodology has not changed for over 25 years and is far too time consuming to use for large-scale analogue circuit designs,'' said Suk Lee, general manager of Magma's Custom Design business unit, in a statement. Titan allows designers to optimise circuits to given specifications using mathematical optimisation techniques and explore the specification boundaries of circuits and optimise analogue circuits for lower power consumption and less area in a fraction of the time, Lee said.

Titan is integrated with Magma's Talus digital implementation and Quartz verification products, as well as with the company's FineSim Pro simulation product, Magma said.

Titan has already been used successfully in a joint evaluation to design, port and tape out high-performance analogue circuits Rambus Inc.'s XDR memory and FlexIO processor bus architectures, Magma said.
