Multiplier circuit gauges real power in high-frequency PWMs

Posted: 13 Aug 2008     Print Version  Bookmark and Share

Keywords:PWM  power measurement circuit  high-frequency motor  dissipated load power

The article discusses the step-by-step procedure on how a power circuit design measures dissipated load power in an H-bridge PWM motor driver. Called the power measurement circuit, this design yielded 8.7MHz as the bandwidth of the voltage measurement section, giving good fidelity with a 100kHz square-wave input. The gain accuracy of power measurement circuit depends on the accuracy of the LT1256 and the resistors. The power measurement circuit presented in this article is capable of measuring the power dissipated in a high-frequency PWM-driven motor or any other high-frequency power measurement application.
