Voltage supervisors offer accurate monitoring

Maxim Integrated Products unveils the MAX16060/MAX16061/MAX16062 1 per cent accurate, quad-/hex-/octal-voltage microprocessor supervisors. Maxim claims that these devices maximise system reliability while offering exceptionally accurate monitoring. To achieve this accuracy, they integrate a bandgap reference that enables highly precise trimming of the voltage thresholds. The MAX16060/MAX16061/MAX16062 are ideal for precision monitoring of complex multi-voltage systems such as those found in networking, storage, and telecom equipment.

According to Maxim, the supervisors are extremely versatile. The quad-/hex-/octal-voltage monitors are offered in various combinations of factory-fixed or user-adjustable voltage thresholds. Factory-fixed thresholds are available for monitoring standard 3.3V, 2.5V, and 1.8V, while user-adjustable thresholds can monitor down to 0.4V. Thus, a single IC can employ all adjustable thresholds or a combination of fixed and adjustable thresholds for precision voltage monitoring. Additionally, the user can select from factory-fixed or adjustable reset-timeout options. This flexibility, says Maxim, allows the MAX16060/MAX16061/MAX16062 to meet the needs of almost any application, and makes it much easier for designers to make on-the-fly adjustments when the specifications for their application require a last-minute design change.

Additionally, these devices feature open-drain outputs with internal 30µA pullups, which save cost by eliminating the need for external pullup resistors. Each output can be driven with an external voltage up to 5.5V, even when VCC is less than the pullup voltage. This allows customers to use a separate pullup voltage to ensure that TTL/CMOS logic levels are reached.

The MAX16060/MAX16061/MAX16062 also include independent outputs for each monitored voltage, an active-low reset output, a manual-reset input, a fixed or capacitor-adjustable reset timeout, and a watchdog timer. Other supervisory features include a tolerance-select input for selecting 5 per cent or 10 per cent input thresholds, and a margin-enable function for deasserting the outputs during margin testing.

The MAX16060/MAX16061/MAX16062 are fully specified over the -4°C to +125°C automotive temperature range, and are available in small, 4mm x 4mm TQFN packages. Prices start at Rs.159.72 ($3.73) for 1,000 and above quantities.
