Developing a mode-locked, Class E power amplifier for RF

This article discusses a design for power amplifiers suitable for RF applications. It shows a design using oscillator/amplifier with a power-added efficiency on the order of 80 per cent, and can be tuned to the frequency to be amplified. The oscillator is mode-locked by adding a second transistor, driven at the frequency to be amplified. Resulting overall power-added efficiency is on the order of 60 per cent.
