England-based PV Crystalox Solar plc has said it has signed a contract with newly-formed Intel spin-off, SpectraWatt Inc. for the supply of multi-crystalline wafers with a total output of 125 mega watts from 2009 till 2013.

The deal has been structured with predetermined prices and volumes, the company said, but the number of wafers and the financial value of the order were not disclosed.

In addition to focusing on advanced solar cell technologies, SpectraWatt is chartered with developing improvements in manufacturing processes and capabilities to reduce the cost of photovoltaic energy generation.

"SpectraWatt is an exciting new venture which will strengthen our customer portfolio and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership," said Iain Dorrity, chief executive officer, in a statement.

PV Crystalox Solar was one of the first to develop multi-crystalline technology on an industrial scale, and claims to have set the industry standard for ingot production.

The company manufactures silicon ingots at facilities in Abingdon, England, with the majority of its output shipped to Japan, where it is sold either as ingots or as wafers, after processing by a subcontractor.
