DSP power optimisation methods for wireless applications

Power optimisation has been used in wireless media systems products, including broadband wireless coverage that enables devices with much more powerful processors to perform a wide variety of tasks. Code size, speed and power consumption all significantly impact system-level products that integrate a DSP. The more power an embedded application consumes, for example, the larger the battery or fan required to drive it. Although performance and power optimisation strategies share a similar goal, there are subtle differences in how those goals are achieved. This article explores the differences in terms of wireless system design and discusses the resulting strategies.
