Zetex Semiconductors has introduced the ZXGD3101, a zero point detector driver that enables designers to replace Schottky diodes with surface mount MOSFETs.

The ZXGD3101 is designed to function in synchronous flyback converters ranging from 50W to 150W. Benefits include reduced power supply size, weight and heat generation; a simpler circuit design; and improved power supply efficiency. In a 60W notebook adapter, power losses are typically reduced by 20%, according to the company.

The ZXGD3101 incorporates a high-voltage differential amplifier stage and a high-current driver in a compact SM8 package. The ZXGD3101 needs three external, passive components to produce source and sink currents of up to 2.5A.
