Maxim unveils dual-output clock generator

Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX3674 wide-frequency-range, dual-output clock generator for high-speed system equipment. This device uses a low-noise VCO and PLL architecture to generate a low, 5ps rms jitter output clock up to 1,360MHz from a low-frequency reference clock provided by the on-board crystal oscillator or external LVCMOS clock. To reduce cost, it provides two differential LVPECL outputs for the same or different frequencies, thus eliminating one high-frequency crystal oscillator. Additionally, an I²C-compatible interface enables fine-tuning of the output frequency for frequency-margining testing, thus minimizing the complexity of system testing procedure. The MAX3674 is suitable for high-speed applications such as Ethernet switches/routers, storage-area-network switches, wireless base-station channel cards and server clock generation.

The MAX3674 is fully specified over the -40°C to 85°C extended temperature range, and operates from a 3.3V ±5 percent supply. It is available in a Pb-free, 48-pin LQFP package. Prices start at Rs.483.89 ($12) (1,000-up, FOB USA).
