LCD panel maker LG Display Co. has finished the construction of its second assembly plant in China. The company hopes to double annual production capacity of the new plant in the southern city of Guangzhou to 2 crore LCD modules for TVs and monitors by 2010, up from the current 1.1 crore units.

"The construction of the Guangzhou plant was aimed at actively coping with client demands by localising production," LG Display CEO Kwon Young-soo said in a statement.

According to LG Display, quoting a DisplaySearch forecast, sales of LCD TVs in China are expected to hit 1.55 crore (15.5 million) units this year, fueled by the growing demand ahead of the Beijing Olympics in August.
