Achieve better home appliance safety with smart AC control design

The move from electromechanical to digital control in home appliances was first accomplished with off- the-shelf electronic devices - the systems architecture being built around an MCU, discrete transistors and high-voltage triacs. This mini revolution in home appliances is motivated in part by the growing need to reduce energy and water wastes, as well as to promote ease-of-use. This has changed the face of AC power controls.

When designing a control system, designers aim for higher electrical immunity and increased robustness. The IEC61000-4 series standards relate to EMC requirements linked to the AC line such as high voltage surges, electrical fast transient bursts, and electrostatic discharges.
