This article is part of a series discussing the feasibility of implementing a multi-carrier transceiver for WCDMA or Wideband Code Division Multiple Access, a type of 3G cellular network, and discusses the key performance issues in the transmit path, including frequency error and power control.

There are several options for the architecture of the transmit path. Described is a direct-conversion architecture for an initial point of reference, as well as the transmit signal requirements. Throughout the discussion of architectures, it is assumed that there is a channel filter at the output of the power amplifier (PA) that is sharp enough so as not to desensitize the receive path and to ensure spurious emissions, when colocated, are filtered sufficiently.
