A 16bit, 105Msps ADC with 81.2dBFS SNR and 100dBc Spurious Free Dynamic Range that consumes just half the power of competing ADCs has been claimed by Linear Technology Corp.

The LTC2217 touts ultra-low jitter, maintaining high SNR at high input frequencies, while its high linearity sample/hold circuitry allows for low distortion of 92dBFS at 70MHz. The single 3.3V power supply requires less support circuitry than alternative ADCs that require two supplies.

The LTC2217 can interface to a variety of digital systems with multiple digital output modes standard LVDS, low power LVDS, straight CMOS and demultiplexed CMOS. Additionally, an easy to use digital output randomiser is available which can dramatically reduce the effects of digital feedback from the digital outputs to the analogue inputs. A separate output power supply allows the CMOS output swing to be as low as 0.5V for further noise enhancement. The LTC2217 also features an optional internal dither circuit for improved SFDR performance for low-level input signals. Both features, only offered in Linear Technology ADCs, enhance the LTC2217's overall distortion performance in high sensitivity receiver applications.

The LTC2217 is pin-compatible with the existing 16bit, 130Msps LTC2208 and 160Msps LTC2209 ADCs. In addition, the 16bit 80Msps LTC2216, and 65Msps LTC2215 are also available. These low-noise 16bit ADCs are well suited for communications applications, ATE, as well as high-end medical imaging equipment.

The LTC2217, LTC2216 and LTC2215 are priced at Rs.2,676.83 ($68.00), Rs.2,283.18 ($58.00) and Rs.2,046.99 ($52.00) respectively, in 1,000-piece quantities.
