Planning to shift its focus on platform offerings for telecom providers, Ericsson has agreed to sell its enterprise communications business Canadian company Aastra Technologies.

The telecommunications equipment vendor explained that it decided to let go of the business since the enterprise PBX and communications platforms segment is increasingly globalised and "moving towards consolidation."

Ericsson's enterprise communications business ranges from PBX systems and IP-based communication systems to telephones and terminal devices. In 2007, the enterprise segment achieved sales of about Rs.1,855.48 crore ($470 million). The activities will be sold for Rs.404.14 crore ($102.37 million). The company declined to elaborate on the profit/loss situation of the activities to be sold. However, a spokesperson said the business has been profitable.

The agreement with Aastra includes the transfer of 640 employees and is subject to approval by antitrust authorities.
