Implementing the logic behind complex behaviour

Posted: 03 Sep 2005     Print Version  Bookmark and Share

Keywords:asynchronous systems  complex behaviour

Making sure event-driven, asynchronous systems behave correctly can be a difficult task, usually resulting in complex implementations with hard-to-find and hard-to-fix corner cases. This article introduces some simple techniques that can make the implementation much easier. State machines are used to represent dependencies between events and data. By combining simple state machines into one diagram, you can get a clear picture of the complex behaviour and derive transition code from that diagram.
