Spectrum Control's new series of USB connectors incorporate EMI or ESD filters into an industry-standard USB package. By incorporating EMI filtering or ESD protection, the USB connectors save PCB space and deliver better protection for the entire device, said the company.

These USB connectors are drop-in replacements for unfiltered connectors making them suitable solutions for further miniaturisation of peripheral devices. Applications include EMI/RFI sensitive electronics, test and measurement equipment, notebook computers, industrial controls and data acquisition.

These EMI-filtered and ESD-protected USB connectors also can eliminate the need to redesign PCBs in the event of non-compliance during either EMC or ESD testing. Many models in this family meet the requirements of USB 2.0 and USB On-The-Go (OTG) specifications and all are RoHS compliant.

The USB connectors provide a working voltage of 5Vdc with a current rating of 1A maximum and a contact resistance of 30mΩ maximum. The EMI-filtered USB connectors are available with either a capacitive filter for USB 1.1 or with an inductive filter for USB 2.0. Price ranges from Rs.39.48 ($1.00) to Rs.118.44 ($3.00) depending on quantities.
