Audio baseband chip for wireless platforms debuts

STS Inc. has announced the availability of its fourth-generation audio baseband chip for digital wireless audio platforms. The STS DARR81 chip enables simultaneous audio connections of consumer electronics (CE) devices such as headphones, speakers, home theater systems, flat panel TVs, game consoles, iPod and portable media player docking stations, and PCs for uninterrupted streaming of high-definition (HD) uncompressed wireless audio.

The STS HD wireless audio technology delivers a set of rich wireless functionality on a single chip. The HD audio ensures a high quality 24bit/96KSps wireless experience. Providing low-jitter specifications for a 3D audio experience, the chip provides a range of up to 150ft indoors and 500ft outdoors. A repeater function is available for extended range requirements. The wireless audio technology offers consumers a zero-effort, out-of-the-box entertainment solution, delivering the highest QoE, said STS.

Other key features of the audio chip include a bidirectional channel that allows HD audio to be both transmitted and received with a single device simultaneously, enabling HD headsets for VoIP and gaming applications. It also provide multichannel functionality that allows streaming of up to eight different concurrent single streams or four bidirectional streams of HD audio, enabling 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, headphone and multiroom applications at the same time.
