Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. has planned to significantly increase its foothold in Hyderabad, India by increasing its investment in this design centre by over 100 per cent per year over the next three years.

The company acquired the ASIC design centre from Adaptec Inc. several years ago for the development of Raid-on-Chip processors for storage applications. More recently, the design centre has been focused on developing products for the emerging high-performance Ethernet networking applications.

India Design Centre director Ravi Pattisam commented, "We have critical technical expertise in enterprise and carrier networking that will allow Vitesse to deploy more products into this fast-growing market segment. Our expertise will provide low-cost development capability, as well as around the clock resources to improve time-critical development schedules."

The India Design Centre has deployed several multi-million gate IC products in a variety of technologies, including a Raid-on-Chip processor for the storage market, as well as a recently announced highly-integrated GbE MAC controller for carrier and enterprise networking.
