TI unveils next gen accurate building mgmt systems

Texas Instruments Inc.(TI) will showcase next generation sensors and building management systems powered by DSP that can reduce emission of carbon dioxide from industrial and commercial buildings, thus helping to fight global warming at TIDC India 2007, to be held on 29th and 30th Novemeber at Bangalore.

Every day, lakhs of tons of carbon dioxide are being pumped into the atmosphere as a result of lighting, heating and cooling of industrial and commercial buildings. Carbon dioxide emissions from these buildings represent a major chunk of global emission.

Today there is a new-found sense of focus and urgency in trying to counter this. TI's technology helps to address this challenge by way of its Digital Signal Processors, which are enabling next generation 'intelligent occupancy sensors' to be more efficient and accurate, thus contributing directly to a reduction in carbon dioxide emission from industrial and commercial buildings. In this effort, TI has partnered with ObjectVideo, a member of TI's DSP third party network and a provider of intelligent video software for business intelligence gathering.

Conventional occupancy sensors use heat and ultrasonic technology to detect occupancy and false readings can result in erratic on-off activity. Inaccurate detections mean wasted energy and increased cost to businesses. The next generation intelligent occupancy sensors based on TI DSP not only improves upon current occupancy technology, but also enables enhanced data collection for effective operations and efficient use of resources. As video information enters the sensor, it is processed on a TI chip, providing real time occupancy data for a variety of upstream applications. The result a sensor that knows exactly when to cut the lights!

If only 10 per cent marketshare is achieved, that is, if only 10 per cent of buildings adopt these devices, the carbon dioxide emission impact will be reduced by the equivalent of having 25 lakh cars removed from our roads!
