Use time-domain methods to measure crosstalk

The increasing speed of digital systems in communications, video, networking and computer technologies raises the quality requirements of PCBs for these systems. Earlier generations of PCB design can't guarantee performance and operation in the face of increasing signal frequencies and rise times. Today's PCBs and their elements (edge connectors, microstrip lines and component sockets), must be modelled using transmission line methodology.

Understanding the forms, mechanisms and consequences of crosstalk and using techniques that minimise it will help improve the reliability of systems using PCB designs.
