Aiming to expand its share in the non-memory chip market, Samsung Electronics has acquired TransChip, an Israeli chip design firm, according to a Reuters report.

A representative from the South Korean firm disclosed to Reuters that it is targeting to enhance the company's presence in the image sensor area.

In a filing to the Korea Exchange, Samsung disclosed it was setting up an R&D center in Israel and later confirmed its acquisition of the TransChip, but declined to provide the value of the transaction. TransChip specialises in designing, developing, and marketing CMOS sensors used in digital cameras.
