Wi-LAN sues 22 firms for patent infringement

Wi-LAN has announced that it has filed two patent infringement suits against 22 technology companies, including chip suppliers, equipment vendors and electronics retailers, Reuters reported.
Wi-LAN, which licenses patents for telecommunications products, said the suits have commenced in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas .
The filings claim that the companies infringe on Wi-LAN patents related to Wi-Fi and power consumption in DSL products, by making or selling such products as wireless routers, modems and notebook PCs.
Charged are Acer, Apple, Atheros Communications, Belkin International, Best Buy, Broadcom, Buffalo Technology, Circuit City Stores, Dell, D-Link, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, Infineon Technologies, Intel, Lenovo Group, Marvell Semiconductor, NetGear, Sony, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, Westell Technologies and 2Wire.
