Quickfilter Technologies Inc. has announced a reference design to allow a single QF1D512 Simple and versatile FIR engine (SavFIRe) IC to be configured to provide multiple channel filtering in a single device. Using this solution, the device allows designers to implement audio equalisation for both the left and right channels.
"The QF1D512 SavFIRe chip gives designers an easy-to-use solution with world-class quality. When paired with just an inexpensive codec, the device provides a complete equalizer solution at a very low cost," said Don DiDonato, VP of worldwide sales for Quickfilter Technologies. "The QF1D512 device can be configured in minutes to support a virtually infinite range of possibilities for filtering."
In the two channel equalizer configuration, the QF1D512 SavFIRe chip can implement, as an example, a 200-20KHz band pass filter. The filter will reject better than 24dB per octave in the transition band based on a 44.1 kHz sampling rate. With Quickfilter's QuickPro design tools, the user can also implement a free form editor for a virtually infinite array of "sound shaping" possibilities.
This configuration can be applied to both wired and wireless audio systems including wireless speakers, stereo headsets, docking stations for iPods, other MP3 players and satellite radio systems, and audio systems for stereo networks.

The QF1D512 SavFIRe chip allows systems designers to quickly and easily add precision digital filtering to an application. The chip can simply be added between an existing analogue-to-digital converter and the host controller (microcontroller, microprocessor, digital signal processor or field programmable gate array), or can be connected as a co-processor device for controllers with embedded ADCs. "Using our QuickPro tools, the QF1D512 SavFIRe chip is the industry's easiest to use signal processing solution," DiDonato continued.
"Quickfilter sees consumer audio as a huge growth area for our company,? DiDonato concluded. "Paired with our other key markets of automotive, industrial controls and medical, we will be introducing a number of appropriate vertical market applications over the coming year."
The QF1D512 SavFIRe chip is packaged in a 3x3 mm QFN package, is characterised over the industrial temperature range and is available now in production quantities from Quickfilter Technologies, Inc. and its authorized distributors.
