Thomson unveils chipset for triple-play apps
Keywords:VDSL2 ADSL2+ broadband Internet
Aimed at customer premises equipment, the 5411/5120 chipset from Thomson enables simultaneous VDSL2 and ADSL2+ connectivity while serving triple-play applications such as broadband Internet, TV and telephone.
The 802.11-compliant WLAN 5411/5120 chipset is a powerful ARM 11 platform that consists of an RF transceiver, multi-standard DMT engine and programmable accelerator for efficient multimedia stream routing.
According to Thomson, the 5411/5120 chipset's interoperability with most customer premises equipment allows telecom operators to deploy VDSL2 platforms, for about the cost of an ADSL2+ platform. The chipset offers complete backward compatibility with ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ networks.
Thomson provides two reference designs, engineered to serve telecom operators, OEMs, IDHs and ODMs: a gateway modem design that provides LAN routing to multiple users, and a triple-play Integrated Access Device (IAD) design providing VoIP and WLAN capabilities.
