Intel Corp. has partnered with India's NIIT to launch a multi-core training curriculum that will be deployed by NIIT globally.

According to industry estimates, the global software developer population is expected to grow by 34 per cent to 1.71 crore, by 2009. NIIT, in association with its training partners, will offer the Intel Multi-Core Training Programme to this developer community globally.

Speaking at the launch event, Scott Apeland, director, developer network and web solutions, Intel said, "The power of multi-core processors to increase software performance is incredible, but not automatic. The full potential of multi-core processors is best unleashed when software is designed to take advantage of the power of multiple cores. This evolution of processing technologies has brought the software developer and architect community to a phase where they need to re-look at their existing skill-sets."

The training curriculum offers basic and advanced training—from an initial overview of multi-core, to a working experience of parallel programming, including the intricacies of multi-threaded programming and performance optimisation. The curriculum has been designed to empower developers with key diagnostic skills and specialised threading tools, which will allow rapid deployment of correct and efficient parallel applications.

The launch of this curriculum follows a long-standing relationship that NIIT has with Intel. Earlier in August 2005, following an alliance with Intel to train 50,000 developers on Intel technologies, the Intel VTune performance analyser course was embedded into the GNIIT curriculum, resulting in 20,000 developers completing this training by the end of 2007.

The multi-core training programme will be delivered using NIIT's reach in 32 countries, and its subsidiary Element K in the United States and Canada. To further enhance the penetration of training, NIIT is partnering with Intel software training providers in Australia, Germany, South Korea and the United Kingdom—Training Choice, Tria GmBH, Samsung SDS and QA-IQ, respectively. Other training partners include NETRON and Aribil in Turkey; and Academy IT and LANIT in Russia.
