TCR5SB series of CMOS LDOs from TAEC

Toshiba America Electronic Components (TAEC) has unveiled its new family of 200mA single-output CMOS low-dropout regulators that include a built-in control switch featuring low-dropout voltage and low quiescent current.

Developed by Toshiba Corp., the new TCR5SB series of CMOS LDOs features quiescent current that outperforms existing Toshiba bipolar TAR5S series of regulators by 75 per cent. These CMOS LDOs are designed for portable electronics, such as cell phones, notebook PCs, digital audio products and similar devices, which require low noise and low power consumption.

Toshiba's new regulators output voltage ranges from 1.5V to 5V by per 0.1V step. The models and its corresponding output voltage are as follows: TCR5SB15 (1.5V output), TCR5SB18 (1.8V output), TCR5SB19 (1.9V output), TCR5SB25 (2.5V output), TCR5SB27 (2.7V output), TCR5SB28 (2.8V output), TCR5SB29 (2.9V output), TCR5SB30 (3V output), TCR5SB33 (3.3V output) and TCR5SB50 (5V output). Maximum output for the parts is built in.

At Iout=50mA, TCR5SB15 features an LDO voltage of 150mV while TCR5SB18 and TCR5SB19 offer an LDO voltage of 130mV and 110mV, respectively. Both TCR5SB25 and TCR5SB27 provide 90mV output voltage. The remaining parts offer an 85mV LDO voltage. Moreover, all 10 models feature an IB(Off)=0.1µA and an output low noise voltage of 25µVrms.

Package sizes available include SMV (SOT23-5) (SC-74A), which measures 2.9-by-2.8mm, and small capacitance ceramic capacitors can be used at input and output.

"These new CMOS LDO regulators represent the latest innovation from Toshiba and give designers important new flexibility," said Homayoun Ghani, business development manager, TAEC's logic and small signal device/discrete business unit. "Their LDO voltage, low quiescent current, reduced power consumption and small packaging provide a new set of options for circuit design and improved performance of cell phones and other portable equipment."

Samples of selected new CMOS LDO are available now, and the MP products are anticipated to be available by Q2. Pricing ranges from Rs.4.90 (12 cents) to Rs.6.13 (15 cents) each in sample quantities.
