LG Electronics Inc. has restructured its digital display business as a part of the company's aim to boost its portfolio amid growing competition in the LCD and PDP TV markets. LG has reorganised its display business into LCD TV, PDP TV, monitor, PDP modules, and recording media and chemitronics (RMC) divisions. Prior to the revamp, the business was categorised by display, PDP and RMC divisions.

LG spokeswoman Na Joo-young however denied the restructuring has anything to do with the company's recent reduction in PDP production.

"The reason we divided display business into LCD TV and PDP TV is to strengthen both TVs," The Korea Herald quotes Na.

LG's display business registered an operating loss of Rs.1,187.78 crore ($281 million) in the first quarter, mainly due to PDP price cuts and inefficiency in PDP production.

Nam Yong, LG vice chairman recently hinted that the company would restructure the PDP business to cope with its operating losses in the digital display business, reports The Korea Herald.
