In addition to the nine companies bought in Israel, Cisco Systems Inc. is looking for more Israeli companies to acquire, according to John Chambers, CEO of the giant communications equipment manufacturer.

The nine companies include Class Data, Seagull, Pentacom, HyNEX, InfoGear, Riverhead, Actona, P-Cube and Sheer Networks. Chambers spoke through a video conference held May 28 during the Cisco Expo event in Tel-Aviv, Israel.

Cisco's's research and design centre in Netanya, Israel employs around 700 engineers, which makes it the company's second-largest design site outside the U.S. In the past 12 months alone, the site has added 100 new workers.

The centre develops various technologies, among which is Cisco's TelePresence technology that creates a lively virtual conference room. According to Cisco, video conferences are difficult to set up, challenging to use, and frequently unsatisfying in their ability to replicate in-person meetings and the benefits of face-to-face interaction. In a conference room equipped with a TV-type unit, employees had to use remote control keypads to set up meetings.

The TelePresence system incorporates H.264 video codecs, 720p and 1080p high-definition cameras, and native 720p and 1080p high-definition encoding/decoding.
