Keywords:optical component tester  all-band tester  tunable laser sources

Anritsu Instruments Co., a subsidiary of Anritsu Corp., has launched, an all-band optical component tester that allows optical engineers to sweep continuously over up to four tunable laser sources (TLS) for fast and accurate characterisation over the entire telecommunications band. Compatible with any TLS, the MT9820A can be easily integrated in existing R&D and manufacturing testing benches to perform optical loss measurements on optical components.

The MT9820A uses the latest high-speed sweeping method to monitor the output power and wavelength of the four tunable laser sources. The result is wavelength accuracy of ±1pm with a sampling resolution of 1pm. Leveraging its four internal detectors, the MT9820A quickly analyses up to 100nm/s on multi-channel optical components, such as OADM, WSS, multiplexers and interleavers. The tester also has interface capability for additional external detection units.

The MT9820A's patented configuration provides a one-of-the-kind solution that continuously sweeps over several lasers "from 1250nm to 1650nm" to characterise any CWDM, FTTx or WDM optical component. Its high detection range of -60dBm to 0dBm allows users to conduct deeper characterisation of components than with other solutions.

The MT9820A combines high-speed electronic and optical interferometry for real-time measurements with high resolution and accuracy. It is suitable for optical characterisation during alignment and manufacturing processes, as well as for optical sensor analysis.

The MT9820A can be used as an alternative to two conventional methods—set-ups based on step-by-step measurements and sweeping systems. According to the company, these traditional systems are often complex, rigid and difficult to maintain and modify in mid- and long-term perspectives.

A simple-box design allows the MT9820A to easily interface with a user's tunable laser and PC.

The tester is available for immediate delivery.
