Osram's warm, white LED portfolio

Osram Opto Semiconductors has developed a range of high-flux light sources—the Golden Dragon and Ostar products—as well as LEDs that offer more subtle light—the Power TopLED and Advanced Power TopLED. Providing warm white light for general lighting applications, these products are available in different white tones and promise colour stability throughout their lives.

Osram said its Ostar LEDs provide a pleasant warm white light that gives rooms a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. The product consists of six chips, with the option of a matching lens. Operating from a current of 700mA, the 2-by-2cm high-flux LED with lens provides 410 lumens at 2,700K, 460 lumens at 3,000K and 520 lumens at 4200K. Power input of the device is 15W. This makes Ostar devices operate at levels similar to those of halogen lamps. Aside from providing bright LEDs, Osram also offers LEDs in different output classes.

Measuring 3.4-by-3.4mm, Power TopLEDs are much smaller than Ostar and are not as bright, producing 2.9 lumens at 2,700/3,000K, 3.6 lumens at 3,500K and 4.1 lumens at 4,200K. They will fit in the smallest luminaires. They also consume less energy at an operating current of 30mA and cost less to purchase. With their subtle light, they are suitable for decorative lighting for starlight canopies and for contour, effect and stair tread lighting.

For applications that require a luminous intensity and size between those of the Ostar and Power TopLED, Osram offers its Advanced Power TopLED and the Golden Dragon devices. Both provide appropriate LEDs in the required white tones for various application and design considerations. According to Osram, if these different white tones are mixed, even more lighting moods can be created.

The new white tones bring typical LED benefits such as high luminous efficacy, long life, small dimensions and low energy consumption to general lighting. Applications for the different LEDs range from domestic and shop lighting to decorative light.
