Phototransistors detect motion, position without contact

Omron Electronic Components LLC developed a series of non-amplified, slotted phototransistors for motion and position detection. Packaged in a fixed "U-shaped" housing that integrates both the emitter and detector, the EE-SX1 series of transmissive photomicrosensors detect the presence of an object without direct contact.

The EE-SX1 photomicrosensors are available in three mounting styles: SMD, through-hole PCB, and panel mount with connector. They are housed in a package as small as 3-by-3-by-3.4mm with slots ranging from 1mm to 5mm.

The EE-SX1 infrared LED and phototransistor design is said to ensure long-life. High resolution is realised through the narrow aperture width of 0.15mm to 0.5mm. The SMD version operates in a temperature range of -30?C to 85?C, the through-hole in the range of -25?C to 85?C, and the panel-mount in the range of -20?C to 70?C. The optical switches can be customised for a variety of requirements including light intensity, termination options and package configurations.

The photomicrosensors are suitable for low dust, humidity and light interference applications such as utility meters, ATMs, office automation, computer peripherals and gaming.

Pricing ranges from Rs.22 (50 cents) to Rs.48.40 ($1.10) (depending on the model) in quantities of 10,000.

Delivery is from stock to 10 weeks. Engineering samples and a complete set of technical data are available.
