R&S ZVA40 network analyser from Rohde & Schwarz

The new network analyser from Rohde & Schwarz features a frequency range of 10MHz to 40GHz. Said to be the world's only four-port architecture at such high frequencies, the R&S ZVA40 allows users to perform various network-analysis applications without using any additional equipment. This includes measurements on mixers, amplifiers, converters and wafers, as well as antenna measurements in radar/satellite applications.

Featuring a high output power of more than 18dBm, a dynamic range greater than 150dB and a measurement speed of 3.5µs per test point, the new device is suitable for R&D in microwave applications. With the addition of this product, Rohde & Schwarz' R&S ZVx network analyser family now includes models with two to eight test ports for frequency ranges up to 40GHz.

The second generator, which is included in all four-port instruments, allows intermodulation measurements on amplifiers and conversion gain measurements on mixers and converters and thus eliminates the need for an additional external source. The second generator can be set independently of the first source, which makes it easy to configure measurements and perform them quickly. Moreover, users can flexibly configure test sets and integrate external components for specific measurements.

The R&S ZVA40 is also suited for carrying out entire multi-port and balanced measurements up to 40GHz. Rohde & Schwarz thus enables amplifiers to be measured differentially. The easy installation of the calibration kit on the wafer and a complete system error calibration ensure the required measurement accuracy.

For these and other applications, the R&S ZVA40 promises high measurement accuracy and optimal dynamic range, output power, power sweep range and measurement speed. The tester features an easy and intuitive operating concept. Users don't have to be specialists in network analysis to be able to perform sophisticated measurements quickly and generate comprehensive documentation. Convenient wizards explain all important operating steps by displaying them as graphics, and provide all the basic settings. In addition, extensive online help including detailed examples is provided.

Various instrument setups can be stored on the integrated hard disc and recalled by pressing a button or using the mouse or a control command. For each trace, up to 20001 points can be measured and evaluated by means of convenient marker and analysis functions. Other highlights of the R&S ZVA40 include flexible display options, versatile mathematical functions, an embedding/de-embedding function using virtual networks for impedance matching as well as comprehensive automatic calibration functions.
